2015 All Star Team Formation and Player Eligibility Requirements

Attention all Serra Little League Major, Minor, Farm and Pioneer Players and Parents. As the 2015 Serra LL regular season comes to a close, it is time to begin preparing for post-season activities, commonly known as All Stars! This year the Serra post season play could consist of nine (9) teams spread through four categories of participation: District All Stars, Serra All Stars; and District Tournament of Champions (TOC) teams. Specifically they could be as follows:

Majors:
  • 11/12 year olds District All Star team (will participate in the district all star tournament)
  • 10/11* year olds District All Star team (will participate in the district all star tournament)
  • Serra Majors Champions will participate in the District Tournament of Champions (TOC)
Minors:
  • 9/10 year olds District All Star team (will participate in the district all star tournament)
  • North - Serra All Star team (will participate in a single game (N vs S) on closing day)
  • South - Serra All Star team (will participate in a single game (N vs S) on closing day)
  • Serra Minors Champions will participate in the District Tournament of Champions (TOC)
Farm:
  • East - Serra All Star team (will participate in a single game (E vs W) on closing day)
  • West - Serra All Star team (will participate in a single game (E vs W) on closing day)
* Team may not be formed, dependent on several seasonal factors, board decision

The process for forming these teams has already started and will likely continue up to closing day. The majors players will have the opportunity to vote in their team mates to fill four of the 13 team roster of the 11/12 team, while the majors managers will vote in the balance for the 11/12 team and the entire 10/11* team. The minors 9/10, North and South teams will be voted in by the minor's managers. The farm East and West teams will be voted in by the farm managers. The final District All Star team rosters will be posted on the Serra field #1 back-stop (near the Snack Shack) Saturday June 6th at 9:00 AM on closing day.

Schedules: For planning purposes the schedules for each category of post-season participation is as approx. as follows (formal schedules will be posted when available):
  • May 27th thru June 6th: Serra Majors and Minors Championship tournaments
  • June 6th: Serra All Stars; North vs South and East vs West
  • June 8th thru 20th: District TOC
  • June 22nd thru ~July 3rd: District All Stars
The Serra Little League Board of Directors strongly encourages all managers and players to use the following criteria as a guideline in their selection process for All Star candidates:
  • The goal of the All Star Selection process is to "select players whose superior performance in hitting, fielding, base running, game knowledge, leadership, and teamwork will create collectively the most competitive All Star team possible." Additional criteria that should be considered are:
    • Selection should be based on the performance during the current season only
    • Player should be a good representative of Serra Little League
    • Player should have the capability and willingness to play multiple positions
Being selected on to an All Star team is an honor and requires a significant time commitment by the player and the player's family (see schedule above).

Player and parent All Star obligations:
  • Players will be available for all or all but one practice and all or all but one game through July 3rd. Exceptions will be handled on a case by case basis by the division Player Agent and President.
  • Player can provide proof of age and residency/attended school documentations - similar to that provided for the regular season.
  • Player has participated in at least 60% of regular season games.
  • Parents/family must be willing to volunteer at least 10 total additional hours during this post-season period to help with:
    • Serra hosted TOC and All Star District games;
      • Tournament Directors
      • Announcers
      • Score Keepers
      • Pitch counters
    • Facilities/field preparation
      • Pre-game prep; drag, water, paint lines
      • Post-game prep; drag, water, clean-up
    • Snack shack
      • Planning
      • Sales

If you and your son/daughter cannot commit to the above listed obligations, please let your manager know immediately so their name can be removed for consideration to All Star teams. Also, please feel free to contact your player agent and/or team manager for questions.
